Alwyn Morrison is a New York City-based artist delivering a powerful blend of emotionally driven pop-rock that speaks to both the deeply personal and the universally relatable. Inspired by bands like The Cranberries, The All-American Rejects, and Counting Crows, Morrison combines reflective lyricism with bold, dynamic soundscapes. Previously a music journalist interviewing icons like BRIT Award winners Scissor Sisters and acclaimed singer-songwriter Rita Ora, he now channels that same deep understanding of storytelling and sound into his own music. His ability to turn personal stories into resonant, city-sized anthems positions him as a standout voice in today’s rock-pop scene. Let's dive into his latest release and first-ever recorded song, "Chained."

In the words of Alwyn Morrison, "Chained" was the first song I ever recorded. I’ve released other songs before, but this was the first time I actually stepped into a studio and sang into a mic. Honestly, I wasn’t thinking about releasing it at all — I just needed to get it out. If that makes sense? Writing the song wasn’t enough; I had to sing it, say it out loud. I remember feeling super comfortable in that moment, not worried about hitting every note. It was more about expressing myself. My producer was great, and he just captured everything. The vocals we ended up using for the final track are from that very first recording session.
As personal as this song is, I think "Chained" is something a lot of people can relate to. We’ve all felt stuck or bound to certain emotions, experiences, or people at some point. At its heart, it’s about resilience, empathy, and the emotional toll of loving someone through their hardest times. I hope people listening can connect with that feeling of being there for someone, even when it’s tough, and know they’re not alone in that."
LONG STORY SHORT: Alwyn Morrison’s track “Chained” is a stirring, emotionally charged pop-rock ballad that blends nostalgic textures with modern polish. With a warm, expressive vocal timbre and tight, dynamic production, the song captures the ache of not wanting to let go of someone you love—even when it hurts. A subtle acoustic guitar flare weaves through the mix, adding intimacy to lines like “They tell me to leave / But I can’t leave you / Chained to a dark room / Every night and day,” which poignantly alludes to the weight of depression and emotional entrapment. While deeply personal, “Chained” taps into a universal feeling of helplessness and devotion, delivering big Oasis energy while offering a sense of comfort—like a reminder that you’re not alone in the dark.
