Grander's "Rumblestrip": From Scrapped Sessions to Infectious Polyrhythmic Grooves

Experimental indie band, Grander, was founded in Hoboken in 2019 by core members Matt Cugine, Chase Montani, and Aaron Vigliotti. Their debut album, If Found, Cherish, released in October 2021, is a self-produced project that spans emo, indie rock, psychedelia, and electronica across its tracks. Together they've played numerous shows across the Northeast, including a sold-out gig at Pianos in NYC and a slot at the Cornchella Music Festival in Artemas, PA. Following a three-year hiatus, they're back with"Rumblestrip," a track that pre-dates their debut album and has been a staple in their live performances! Let's step into the new single.

Grander's latest single, "Rumblestrip," is a track has been five years in the making. Initially conceived during recording sessions at Marcy College of Music in early 2020, much of the material was scrapped. A crucial bass track from those sessions survived and became integral to the final version of "Rumblestrip." Matt and Chase completed the drum and vocal takes at Chase's garage studio in Long Hill, NJ, culminating in a track that reflects their journey and growth over the years.

The song's genesis can be traced back to an all-night Radiohead binge, which inspired Grander to experiment with polyrhythms, reminiscent of Radiohead's approach on The King of Limbs. Drawing on early emo and post-hardcore influences such as Underoath and Saosin, "Rumblestrip" delivers an intensity not typically found in Grander's discography.

"'Rumblestrip' was always one of our favorite songs. It was a blast to play live, and we always felt it was the best track we had written. From the pounding drum machine to the delicate keys, it really feels like a singular track. It pulls from so many different influences from all of us which makes it really hard to pin down to genre or feel. It took a while for us to get the recording down exactly how we had heard it in our head, but we are so excited with the final product." - Grander

The track unfolds with a bass-driven groove that intertwines with captivating guitar lines, setting a mesmerizing tone from the outset. The vocals, subdued yet integral, dance into the intricate production, where every element feels purposefully crafted as an instrument in its own right.

Live Chasement Broadcast

"Rumblestrip" stands out with its unique 7/8 timing, contributing to its distinct feel and groove-centric approach. At 1:51, the song shifts into a dynamic jam section, layered guitars melding with driving drum machines to amplify its intensity before gently fading out.

LONG STORY SHORT: "Rumblestrip" is an infectious polyrhythmic groove-laden track. Featuring energetic guitars and jammy layers, this new single is a stand-out for Grander.
