Jeremy Abrams is making New Jersey waves with his fresh take on sad boi tunes, drawing from his pop-punk, emo, and alt-rock influences. Captivated by rock music from a young age, Jeremy refined his guitar skills within his church community before pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Music Production from Ramapo College of New Jersey. Transitioning from the metalcore group The Road North to a solo project in 2022, Jeremy's sound is shaped by artists like Cory Wells, Movements, and Silverstein. His debut EP, Everything I Wanted, released in 2023, showcases his dual talents as a musician and audio engineer. Delving into themes of depression, mental health, and social anxiety, Jeremy offers a comforting voice for those struggling. Jeremy has released two singles this year, and is back with another hit, "Blindside." Let's dive into it!
Jeremy Abrams’ latest single, "Blindside," captivates from the very first notes. The track opens with soft and gentle acoustic guitar plucking, creating a cinematic scene. The lyrics immediately draw you in: "I finally know what's on your mind/ While the stars shine in your eyes/ You're leaving me behind/I watched you drive back home that night/ And it left me terrified/ will everything be alright?"
At 0:27, the song hits harder with an infectious pop-punk energy, blending vulnerability and powerful instrumentation. The mix is exceptionally strong, showcasing Abrams' talents as he single-handedly wrote every part of this song, performed every instrument, and handled the mix and master. "Blindside" is truly a one-man show, and it's good too.

Abrams’ varied vocal styling, with quicker verses and anthemic choruses, brings the song to life. The lyrics explore the pain and confusion of having someone who was a bright side in your life walk away, leaving you with unanswered questions and feeling blindsided. This is poignantly expressed in lines like, "You were the bright side of my life.../Won't you please speak to me because this blindside is killing me" and "I can't sleep 'cause my thoughts are all drowning out/ There's a fog in my head that's filling me with doubt."
"I'm really excited about this song, not only because it's a personal favorite, but because it's one step closer to being the kind of music I want to write. Everything I've released so far has been me just trying stuff and seeing what works. What I enjoy or want to avoid. With this song, I finally feel like I'm where I'm supposed to be." - Jeremy Abrams
The vivid imagery in the lyricism, especially in the bridge with "Holding on to all that time/ like picking sand up off the shore," enhances the emotional impact with an agonizing passion and pain in Abrams' lyrical delivery. "Blindside" brings the best parts of nostalgic pop punk with a fresh vigor, featuring a strong melodic guitar solo at 1:36.
