Meet Lupe Dragon:
From North Jersey, Lupe Dragon creates music that delves into emotional pain, anxiety, self-worth, and love, inviting listeners into raw and introspective experiences. Her sharp lyrics and expressive, soulful vocals shape a sound that feels both relatable and refreshingly unique. Influenced by artists like Linkin Park, Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morissette, Dashboard Confessional, and Paramore, she channels the essence of early 2000s alt-rock and pop, with a modern edge. Currently, Lupe is pouring her energy into her next EP, so stay tuned!
This January, The MIC Mag is celebrating Lupe Dragon as our Musician of the Month!
Genre: Pop Rock/Singer-Songwriter
Fun Facts: "I love anything Y2K, I’m obsessed with my dog, active CD collector (and starting to collect vinyl), favorite movie is The Nightmare Before Christmas."
What makes Lupe Dragon stand out?
"I think my ability to chat with the audience on stage and be able to connect on a deeper level. I’m also okay with making fun of myself for dropping a guitar pick to messing up the lyrics in my music."
What is Lupe Dragon most known for?
"I think right now people know for my old guitar that was all stickered up. And for the fact that I used to blend some form of rap into my music. But what I hope to be known for now is my songwriting and singing capabilities and being able to connect with people through the stories in my music."
What has Lupe Dragon been working on?
"swaylinks"
"The one thing I hope people take away from "swaylinks" is that you are human, and your story within yourself is an important one. We all deal with bad moments in life but with community and love and support from the people most important to you, you can get through anything. I made this song with some of my closest friends and I finally sparked important conversations with them that wouldn't have happened had I hid behind another pop song that didn't mean as much to me as this did."
"Being a musician has meant many different things to me over the years. I think now at 25 almost 26, being a musician means I have a voice and I need to use it when I can to speak on important topics. I feel really good about being able to spark conversations about mental health awareness this year and even teaming up with Shane and Michele Murphy from Hidden Tracks record shop in Boonton NJ to finally put together a fundraiser surrounding this topic. I think in the new year I want to continue to be outspoken in a different way and just continue to work on my craft and do more philanthropy when I can." - Lupe Dragon
Do you have any advice for other aspiring independent musicians?:
"Keep creating. Even if it's hard even if you feel things get in the way of creating. If you need to create to function don't let anything get in the way of that. Make things you would listen to and things you want to talk about don't make music for likes and views." - Lupe Dragon
