This December, The MIC Mag is celebrating The Break Plans as our Musician(s) of the Month!
Members: Colton Braun
Genre: Alt-Indie Rock
Fun Facts: Story Time! "When we were in LA a few years ago (out there for a private show) we were driving around LA with Colton's friend and his friend's dog. All of sudden as we were driving pretty fast Colton's friend's dog jumped out the window onto a main road! The dog survived but the PTSD is still real."
What makes The Break Plans stand out?
"We try to bring an energy to our music and performances that makes you feel what we're feeling. And we try to show people that we're just a bunch of 9 to 5ers that are following our dreams and they should too."
What are The Break Plans most known for?
"That we're not full of shit. We're authentic and what you see is what you get. We don't write fictional stories into songs. Everything we write comes from some aspect of our lives."
What have The Break Plans been working on?
mistakes are a friend of mine
"Just want to thank Colton's ex for breaking up with him so she could inspire some amazing songs! All joking aside these songs aren't just about a petty breakup but they are also about some deep and dark turns that happen to someone when they feel like they have lost it all. Mental illness is something that every person needs to be aware of and people need to check in on their friends and family as much as they can. Life is not easy and with the highs, come the lows, and being there for each other when we need it most is what's most important."
"It's a labor of love. You only do it because you want to do it. So if we weren't playing in a band we would still be writing music and playing music on our own. It's just something that's inside of you." - Mikey Strawz, The Break Plans
Do you have any advice for other aspiring independent musicians?:
"You have to ask yourself, why are you a musician? Who are you doing it for? What do you want to get out of it? When I ask myself these questions the answer is always, I do it for me. Because I love it. I love and we love making music. If you start playing music because the end goal is you want to be famous then you're doing it for all of the wrong reasons. We started this band because we finally found people that liked the same kinds of music, which is rare. We were finally able to create something that sounded cohesive and not a mish-mash of seven different genres. Luckily some other people started to like what we were making and it organically has grown. So with that said, as a musician nothing is an overnight success. You have to look at music as a slow climb and find milestones in everything you do. Look back year to year of where you were and where you are now and as long as you are persistent you will definitely feel satisfied in what you're doing." - Mikey Strawz
